What is aethos?
aethos is a licensing platform for digital media. It turns usage rights into digital, machine-readable licenses with clear terms (usage type, territory, duration, exclusivity), lets your contractual partners sign them digitally, alerts you before licenses expire and scans the web on demand to show where your images are used.
Who is aethos for?
For creators and photographers, for teams and agencies, and for enterprises with several brands or subsidiaries. aethos is designed for business use only.
Does my contractual partner need an account?
No. Your partner receives the license as a link and can review and digitally sign it without an account. The license only becomes valid once it's signed.
What does the scan do?
The scan searches the web on demand for where an image appears and matches the results against your license. It only runs when you start it. It's an indication, not a guarantee, and a match is not a legal assessment.
Is aethos legal advice? Does it enforce my rights?
No. aethos helps you document and prove your rights. It is not legal advice, not a party to your license agreements, and it doesn't enforce rights or collect license fees.
How does aethos fit with my existing contracts?
Your contracts remain the foundation. aethos is the digital layer for your usage rights: every license is machine-readable, has clear terms (usage type, territory, duration, exclusivity), is digitally signed by your counterparty and can be found and proven at any time. The agreement is made between you and your counterparty, aethos is not a party to it.
What are credits?
Licenses and scans use credits. Every plan includes a monthly allowance that resets every month. Additionally purchased credits don't expire and are non-refundable. You'll find the details in the pricing and in our terms and conditions.
What about assets that are already in use?
You can add existing assets and ongoing usages to the system and cover them with a license from then on. License periods are fully flexible.
How fast can I get started, and why do I need to verify my identity?
Choose your plan, create your account, verify yourself and issue your first license. It takes a few minutes. Verification (Stripe Identity) makes sure every license traces back to a real sender. This creates security and trust for you and your partners.
